The Literacy Loop
Becoming a fluent reader requires several, complex literacy skills that develop one step at a time. To develop effective literacy skills, fluency and comprehension, it is essential that each step is mastered before moving to the next. Loop Learning Collective literacy programs are holistic, strength based, multi-sensory and take the overwhelm out of learning to read. Our structured literacy programs follow the latest science of reading research, meet your child where they are in the process and address each of these essential steps.
Literacy and executive functioning go hand in hand. Skills like attention, working memory, planning, and self-monitoring directly impact a student’s ability to read, write, and learn effectively. At Loop Learning Collective, we go beyond traditional literacy support by strengthening both literacy and executive function skills - helping students become more confident, independent, and successful learners.
How Our Literacy Support Works
1. Intake & Assessment: We begin with a comprehensive intake process to understand your child’s learning profile, academic history, strengths, and areas of challenge. This helps us identify where to begin and what type of support will be most effective.
2. Personalized Match with a Literacy Specialist: Based on your child’s needs, we thoughtfully match them with one of our literacy specialists who aligns with their learning style, goals, and areas of need.
3. Individualized Learning Plan: Using intake information and assessment data, we create a personalized plan rooted in evidence-based strategies to target foundational reading and writing skills.
4. Meet Weekly: 1 or 2 sessions/week: Students meet with their literacy specialist for structured, one-to-one sessions designed to build skills systematically and consistently.
5. Structured Literacy Approach: Our instruction follows the science of reading and uses a structured literacy approach that is explicit, systematic, cumulative, and multisensory - supporting skills such as phonemic awareness, decoding, spelling, fluency, reading comprehension, and written language.
6. Ongoing Progress Monitoring: We regularly track progress, adjust instruction as needed, and keep families informed so support evolves alongside your child’s growth.
