Academic Skills Support

Our academic skills programming helps students build the external tools needed for academic success. We teach practical, personalized learning strategies that help students engage with material more effectively, study more efficiently, and develop greater independence.

Areas of support include:

• Note-taking strategies tailored to each subject (e.g., science, math, English, history)

• Active reading skills to improve comprehension, retention, and engagement with texts

• Active study methods specific to each subject, including how to review, practice, and prepare effectively

• Prioritization and task management to help students determine what to tackle first and break down larger demands

• Time management strategies for balancing assignments, tests, extracurriculars, and deadlines

• Technology and apps that support student success, including tools for organization, planning, studying, reminders, and focus

These skills work hand-in-hand with executive functioning. While executive functioning supports the internal self-regulation processes needed for success—such as planning, focus, organization, emotional regulation, and follow-through—academic skills provide the external systems and strategies students use to manage their workload and learn more effectively.

Together, these two areas create a powerful foundation for learning, helping students become more confident, strategic, and independent learners.
